TOUCHSTONE@

“In 2006 we discussed a move into breeding after years of involvement in different disciplines. We were looking for that elusive mix of attributes for a potential stud prospect that not only stood out with exceptional looks, conformation and presence but was also versatile and able to perform in any chosen arena. that not only stood out with exceptional looks, conformation and presence but was also versatile and able to perform in any chosen arena. We looked at many potential studs and while some were stunning we still we couldn’t find that mix.

In 2007 just before EI we heard that a 2y/o Paint colt “Touchstone” was offered for sale after winning NHPH Champion Stallion or colt as well as winning the QLD state show at halter in Brisbane as a yearling. After contacting Susan Camerfamen from Work Horse Recruitment we decided to make the trip to Togoolawah QLD.

We arrived at Donny and Cherise Mclauclin’s Magic Cross Stud, to have a closer look and we were not disappointed. Donny and Cherice had really done wonders with him and he was a credit to their professionalism and ability

He exceeded our expectations in relation to the looks department but we were still curious about his ability to perform under saddle as he was just started by Donny at this time This was an essential requirement to our breeding program.

Once EI had cleared Touchstone arrived home and started his education. Shane has always held a great interest in Reining and luckily Touchstone appears to have a natural aptitude for the work even though he wasn’t necessarily built for it.

He commenced training with Michael Bingham and successfully competed at the 2009 Paint Nationals winning the title of Australian Junior Reining Champion. Then again in 2010 at the Paint nationals winning the open Stallion at Halter.

At the end of 2010 Touchstone had earned a much deserved holiday and then we took some time to re-evaluate and decided to utilise another side of his training. After some thought he recommenced his training for the dressage and hacking arena under the very capable hands of Larissa Chadwick.

We have been lucky enough to form a great relationship with Mary and John Trigg’s from Aloha Arabian Stud (Looking for that coloured derivative).

Touchstone not only has a remarkable temperament and willingness to learn but an ability to pass his trainability & attitude on to his progeny.
